Wall insulation in Aliso Viejo CA - full, firm walls with no moisture hidden inside

Upstairs rooms that run hot all summer or feel drafty along the outside walls? We check your walls, then fill them so rooms stay comfortable.

Can you insulate the walls of an older house without opening them up?

Wall insulation in Aliso Viejo is how we fill the empty spaces inside the outside walls of an older house, usually through small holes we drill and seal, so your rooms hold their heat or cool much better than they do now.

If your house went up before anyone filled the walls, the rooms along the outside can feel hot on summer afternoons and chilly on winter mornings, and the power bill shows it. The room over the garage is often the worst, because it has more outside wall than anywhere else in the house.

The price mostly turns on how many outside walls we fill, whether we work from inside or outside, and whether something has to be fixed first, like a damp spot or old wiring. Those same repairs set the schedule, so the estimate I write after looking at your walls lists each step and anything that has to happen first, and you can see the whole order before you decide.

What happens after you call about your walls?

It starts with a call to (949) 619-8040 or a note through the form below, and from there it goes in three steps.

I look at your walls and write it down

I come out to look at the job myself, because I've run this business since 2013 and I'd rather see your walls than guess at them. The estimate I write lists each step and anything that has to be fixed before we fill a wall.

Our own crew works inside the city's hours

Our own crew does the work, in the order the estimate lists. Aliso Viejo allows construction from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on weekdays and 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturdays, with no work on Sundays or federal holidays, so we schedule your days within those hours.

I check the work, and we're licensed and insured

Before we call the job finished, I look it over myself. California's state licensing board treats installing any insulation for heat or sound control as insulation contracting, and we're licensed and fully insured.

Our wall insulation work, in the order it should go

Before we drill anything, we look over the siding and the inside walls for signs of moisture, because insulation packed against a damp wall just hides the problem until it shows up later. If the house still has old knob and tube wiring, we work out a plan with you before any wall gets filled. Only once the walls are clear do we fill them, and if I find they're already full, I'll tell you the job isn't worth doing.

Walls are only part of how a house loses heat. Gaps around outlets, pipes and the attic hatch let air slip past any insulation, so we often pair this job with air sealing services. If you have a lower level set against the ground, basement insulation is its own job with its own moisture questions.

  • A moisture check of the siding and inside walls before any drilling
  • A wiring plan worked out with you if the house has knob and tube
  • Drill and fill of the outside walls, from inside or outside
  • Holes sealed and patched once each cavity is full
  • A straight answer if your walls don't need the work

How a wall insulation day goes at your house

Once the checks are done and the plan is set, the work itself follows the same four steps on every wall.

  1. Cover the floors and close off the room

We lay protection on the floor below each wall and set up an enclosure around the work, so dust stays where we're drilling. You won't find it tracked through the rest of the house.

  2. Find each cavity before drilling

We locate the studs and any blocking inside the wall first, because each closed-off space needs its own hole. Drilling blind is how a section gets missed and stays cold.

  3. Fill each cavity until it won't take more

We blow insulation in until the space is full and packed firm, because loose fill settles over time and leaves an empty strip at the top of the wall. A firm pack stays where we put it.

  4. Plug, patch and sweep up

Each hole gets sealed and patched, and we take down the covers and clean up as we finish each room. What's left is a row of small patches instead of new drywall or siding.

Wall insulation questions we hear in Aliso Viejo

How do you insulate existing walls without tearing them open?

Most older homes with empty walls get drill and fill, where small holes go into the wall, insulation is blown in and the holes are sealed. It's a common choice for houses in a mild climate, and it saves you from pulling off drywall or siding.

Is it better to insulate walls from the inside or the outside?

Working from the inside usually leaves less to fix, because blowing in from outside cuts through the drainage plane, the layer behind the siding that carries water down and out, and that layer then needs patching or full replacement. Which side makes sense depends on how easy the rooms are to get into and what shape that outer layer is in. When the rooms are easy to reach and the outer layer is sound, I'd usually lean inside for that reason.

What does blown-in wall insulation cost in Aliso Viejo?

Across the US, installing blown-in wall insulation usually costs about $4 to $4.50 per square foot, which is a national figure and not a price for your house. The quote I write after seeing your walls gives you the figure for your own home.

What should I know about an older home before insulating the walls?

Check the wiring, the age of the house and any sign of moisture first. The electrical code bars insulation applied to or around knob and tube wiring, which is why we plan for it before filling anything, and homes built before 1980 bring lead safety rules into play depending on how much of the wall gets disturbed inside and out. If the siding, the sheathing boards under it, the framing around windows and doors or the inside wall finish shows moisture trouble, the insulation should wait until that's found and repaired.

Insulating walls in Aliso Viejo

Aliso Viejo's Building & Safety department lists Climate Zone 6 among its building design requirements. California's Energy Code also splits the state into climate zones, and what it asks of walls depends on the zone a building sits in. If you want to know how either applies to your house, that question belongs to the city's office, which takes calls at 949-425-2540.

We're based in Aliso Viejo and work in cities across Orange County, including Laguna Niguel, Mission Viejo and Laguna Hills, plus plenty more nearby. Most calls we get start with an upstairs room that runs hot or a power bill that keeps climbing, and the walls are often part of that answer along with the attic.
