Home insulation in Aliso Viejo CA - upstairs rooms that stay comfortable in summer

Hot upstairs, drafty rooms or a power bill that keeps climbing? We seal the gaps first, then insulate where it actually helps.

Fiberglass batts fill the wall cavities of an unfinished home beside exposed ducts and red and blue pipes.

Where does my house actually need insulation?

Home insulation in Aliso Viejo means adding insulation where your house gains or loses heat, usually the attic floor first, then the walls and any space under the floor. Rooms then stay closer to the temperature you set, and the house gets a little quieter too.

Most calls start with a hot upstairs, a room over the garage that never cools down, or a power bill that climbs every summer. The price depends on how much your house needs in each place. That comes down to how many inches are already up there, whether old material has to come out, how many gaps need sealing, and whether you go with blown-in, which is loose fill blown through a hose, or with foam.

The schedule mostly depends on what has to happen first, like a damp spot getting repaired or old fill getting tested, and on how easy your attic is to get into. My estimate lists each step and anything that has to be fixed before we start, so you can see the order and the reason for it. Insulation work in California falls under its own license class with the state licensing board, so check that whoever you hire holds it.

What happens after you call about insulating your house?

You'll deal with the same few people from the first visit to the last look. Call (949) 619-8040 or use the form below to get started.

I look at the house myself

I've been doing this work in Aliso Viejo since 2013, and I still climb into most attics, check the walls and look under the floor myself. The estimate I write lists each step in order, plus anything that has to be fixed before insulation goes in.

Our own crew works inside city hours

Our own crew does the work in the order the estimate lays out. The city allows construction from 7 am to 8 pm on weekdays and 8 am to 8 pm on Saturdays, with no work on Sundays or federal holidays, so we book your days within those hours.

I check the work before we call it finished

When the crew wraps up, I go up and look over the work myself before we call the job done. We're licensed and fully insured. Satisfaction guaranteed.

How we decide what your home insulation job includes

Most homes need different things in different places, so we look at the attic, the walls and any space under the floor, then tell you where insulation will help most and where it won't. Foam costs more and seals air while it insulates, but sealing the gaps and topping up loose fill usually does more for the money, unless your ductwork runs through the attic. Once we agree on a plan, we clear out anything damaged, seal the gaps and then insulate, in that order.

Sometimes the old material up there is soaked, packed flat or full of droppings, and fresh insulation laid over it keeps the problem in your house, so we start with insulation removal. If your complaint is cold floors rather than a hot upstairs, the fix is usually below the house, and crawl space insulation is where we'd look first.

  • A look at the attic, walls and crawl space before any price
  • Old, wet or dirty material pulled out before new goes in
  • Gaps sealed around can lights, pipes, wiring and the attic hatch
  • Loose fill or foam chosen for each spot, not one answer for the whole house
  • Eave vents kept clear so the attic can still breathe

How a home insulation job goes, step by step

The order matters more than the material, because insulation laid over a gap or a damp spot just hides the problem.

  1. Check what's already up there

We measure how many inches you already have and what shape it's in, and the age of the house tells us what to watch for in the old fill and wiring. That tells us whether we're topping up or starting over.

  2. Clear and repair first

Anything soaked, moldy or full of droppings comes out, and damp or rotted spots get dealt with before anything new goes in. If something needs a test or another trade first, we say so and wait.

  3. Seal the gaps

Air sealing, which means closing the gaps where air slips through, goes around can lights, pipes, wiring holes and the hatch. Skip it and the new insulation spends its whole life fighting a draft.

  4. Insulate evenly and clean up

We bring the insulation to an even depth that holds all the way out to the edges, instead of piling it high in the middle and leaving the edges thin. Eave vents stay open, and we clean up the hatch area and anything we tracked through the house.

Home insulation questions from Aliso Viejo homeowners

How much does home insulation cost per square foot in Aliso Viejo?

Blown-in attic insulation usually runs about $4 to $7.75 per square foot across the US, and that's a national figure for installing it, not our price. Your number depends on how much old material comes out, how many gaps need sealing and whether anything needs repair first, so I write it down only after I've seen your attic.

Which type of insulation is best for an attic floor or existing walls?

Blown-in cellulose, fiberglass or mineral wool suits both an open attic floor and walls that are already closed up, while sprayed foam can also go on the underside of the roof. Foam counts as more advanced work that calls for a certified installer, so it narrows who can do the job and usually costs more.

What has to be fixed before new insulation goes in?

Wet insulation, moldy or rotted rafters, poor attic ventilation and old knob and tube wiring should be corrected by a professional before anything goes over them. Vermiculite, a flaky gray fill that may contain asbestos, should be left alone until an approved lab tests it, and your local health department can give you the name of one.

Do I have to leave the house while insulation is installed?

Usually not for blown-in work, because the crew stays in the attic and at the hatch. Spray foam is different, since the foam maker sets a re-entry time, which is how long before people and pets can come back inside, and we tell you that time before the job is booked.

Insulating homes in Aliso Viejo and the cities around it

Aliso Viejo uses the California Energy Code, and the state's energy commission says that code sets efficiency requirements for changes to existing homes, not just for new ones and additions. So insulation added to a house that's already standing still has state rules to meet. Most of what we see here is the same few things, a hot second floor, a warm room over the garage, and attic fill that's packed down or been disturbed over the years.

We're based in Aliso Viejo and do the same work in cities across Orange County, including Laguna Niguel, Mission Viejo, Laguna Hills and Lake Forest, plus plenty more nearby. The attics change a little from city to city, but the order of the work doesn't.
